Getting To Stanford University

Airports

Stanford University is located less than an hour from three major international airports:

Ground transportation offerings from the airport to Stanford depend on your preferred landing location. Available at all three airports are:

  • Taxis (typical fares are $80-$100)
  • Rental Cars
  • Shuttle Services : There are three shuttle services that operate on a 24-hour basis to the Stanford campus. The following shuttle services charge approximately $25 to $36 for a one way door-to-door trip. Call or make a reservation online. Pick-up is upstairs on departure level on the center traffic island.

Public Transit

Public transit can be used from all airports, and is best planned with Google Maps. Basic directions are as follows:

  • SFO — Take Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) to the Milbrae station, then change to CalTrain for the ride to Palo Alto station, from where you can walk or taxi to your hotel.
  • SJC — Take the VTA bus to the Santa Clara CalTrain station, then ride CalTrain to Palo Alto, from where you can walk or taxi to your hotel.
  • OAK — Take Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) to Union City station, then the VTA's Dumbarton Express to the Palo Alto Transit Center, from where you can walk or taxi to your hotel, or take BART to the Milbrae station and then CalTrain to the Palo Alto station (adjacent to the Transit Center).

Your hotel of choice may offer an airport shuttle. Contact your hotel for more details.

Ground Transportation

The San Francisco Bay Area is serviced by a few major Interstate arteries:

  • Interstate 80 from the west
  • Highway 101 from the north and south
  • Interstate 5 from the north and south

We recommend that either Google Maps or a GPS device be used for the most accurate and up-to-date driving directions to Stanford campus.

Free Parking on the Stanford Campus is available at Galvez Field, located near the Football Stadium at the corner of Campus Drive East and Galvez Street (see map below).

Once you're on campus, the registration tables should only be a 10-15 minute walk away. You can download a campus map (PDF) ahead of time to help familiarize yourself with the campus layout. If you are looking for a specific building, you can also use the searchable campus map.
